Join us for a morning of expert insights and discussions at the 2023 Pool Re Market Event, taking place in Central London at the historic Glaziers Hall on Thursday 30 November, 2023. 

This year we are privileged to host two expert panel sessions that will shed light on the proposed Martyn’s Law as well as provide valuable insights into our Treaty Transformation. It promises to be an informative and engaging event.

Breakfast will be provided.

Important Venue Information: To ensure the safety and security of all guests, the venue will be operating a security policy. Please be aware that all bags will be searched upon arrival to the venue. Attendees are encouraged to not bring bags to the venue where possible, however, if you do intend to bring a bag then please allow for some additional time to enter the building. Keynote Speaker Announcement

Tom Hurd OBE

The Rt Hon Tom Tugendhat MBE VR MP

Tom Tugendhat MP was appointed Minister of State (Minister for Security) on 6 September 2022 and attends cabinet. He previously served as the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee from 2017 to 2022.

He has been the MP for Tonbridge and Malling since 2015.Before being elected as an MP, Tom served on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also worked for the Foreign Office, helping to set up the National Security Council of Afghanistan and the government in Helmand Province. On returning to the UK, Tom served as the military assistant and principal adviser to the Chief of the Defence Staff to the British Army. 

Panel One – Martyn’s Law:

The first session of the day will focus on exploring Martyn’s Law: the key principles of the Law, how the law will affect businesses in the UK, what does it mean in terms of compliance, what do we know about the timeline and the new regulator. Our expert panel will discuss the approaching Protect Duty legislation, what led to its development and what are the likely impacts on the insurance industry and on businesses and policyholders across the UK.

Panel Two – Treaty Transformation:

Pool Re is preparing to convert its reinsurance arrangements with Members to adapt to the changes of the insurance market and the evolving terrorism threat. In our panel discussion, we will discuss why we are reviewing our scheme, what the main changes will be, and the strengths and benefits of this new reinsurance scheme.
